Stubborn ITP/ Gluten free ITP was created by ACE09CLE
Back in 2007 i was diagnosed with ITP. The first time I was diagnosed treatment for a cure was horrible. NOTHING WORKED, Steroids, IVIG (worked for a little while) Spleen removal didn't ever work, tested for an accessory spleen, over 56 platelet transfusions (every day until they could find something else) did a bone marrow biopsy to make sure there wasn't more to the story. Finally Rituxan worked. I went three and a half years then went back into remisson. I knew my treatment was limited because nothing worked before. So we went straight to Rituxian with no luck. I was then put on Promacta (eltrombopaq) which worked. I was on it for 7 months until finally my platelets stayed put.
My question is, I am wanting to do a gluten free diet. Has this worked for anyone here? Or am i kidding myself? I am willing to try anything because after promacta, I think we are out of options :(

Thank you in advanced.

You still have options. N-Plate, CellCept, Imuran, Decadron....

Going gluten free couldn't hurt. I have done it for Lupus and it did make a difference.

Are you still on promactra? My dr said we 'd do that as a last resort do to uncertainty of long lasting effects like needing it for life and scarring the bone marrow. I am wondering the same snout gluten. There is Another thread titled GLUTEN with more info. How low do your numbers get?

I am not on promacta anymore. I was on it for 6 months straight. :( As for my numbers i have been as low as 2. But this last time I was at 17k. See when i was on Promacta I was in the process of moving from Washington State to IL (Military) So I have had 3 dr while on promacta. The last one is the only one that expressed concern about it altering bone marrow. He was able to get me off of it.
The only side effects I had was when it brought my platelets up way to high, then I didn't have a period, or was late.

See what i was told by the first dr. was after this medicine, If it didn't work, it would be onto a strong chemo.? which made me panic a little

It's up to you to advocate for yourself and see what your options are. You do not have to do a strong chemo. It's okay to suggest something to your doctor after you've researched it. If it is a viable option and he won't go for it, find another doctor.
