I am going to get counts in morning and suppose to go into work. But I just got a call that boss is sick with temp (going into work for a while then leaving) and co-worker will let me know if she has a temp. Just had spleen out on 11/25/13 counts last week 24k then I got IVIG's Friday and Saturday. I just don't want to get sick and end up back in the hospital....

ANY ADVISE????

Amber:

When someone has their spleen removed, they don't get sick more often but when they do, it can get serious very fast. Having the flu or pneumonia can cause sepsis quickly.

You are a bit different. You have had immunosuppressive treatments lately and having those will lower your ability to fight off an illness in the first place. The immunizations you did have may not be effective. Add those both together, and I'd say you have a high risk of getting sick. In all of my years here, I don't think I've ever seen anyone have so many immunosuppressive treatments piled up like that.

I can't tell you to stay home. The truth is, you could catch something at the grocery store, Mall or doctor's office; anywhere for that matter. What you do need to do is stay away from the people that you know are sick, wash your hands often, don't touch your face, and wipe down anything that they might have touched. Just be cautious. That's about all you can do. Call your doctor if you are unsure of what to do.

Amber,

I think it would be wise to be on the very very very conservative side on this one! How are you feeling now?

Jeff

Very sore today more so than normal. Husband said I have my color back in my face. Arm was red from the IVIG's,headache, stiff neck and leg pain but pain medication helped with all that and ice for my arm. Day starter out with lots of energy to feeling very tried and sore.

As a fellow person with ITP it never fails to amaze me how many people go to work sick. I know they don't do it on purpose to get me sick, but still...

If it was me, I would explain to the people I work with how susceptible I was and also how dangerous it would be for me to get sick. They should understand.

I'm so sorry you have to go through this!!

335k today and it has never been that high..... feeling good, doctor lowered Promacta from 75mg to 50mg until I can see new doctor and was advised since boss came in also today with active temp not to go in. If his temp goes away today then will be good for work tomorrow. If it wasn't for just having surgery I would have gone in and just been very careful.

335! Amazing count amber!!

I think it's a good idea to stay off work until your boss' temp has gone down. It seems that whilst you could catch anything anywhere, it's a much higher risk to go somewhere you know there is someone who is unwell. If that makes sense??!

Hope you enjoy your extra day off. And I'm so SO pleased to hear you have a good count at last :D

Lowest count 1. Highest count 207 (ivig) Indium scan showed predominantly splenic destruction. No meds currently, just seeing how things go.

Boss said if he has temp tomorrow he will stay home, he should have done that today.
