Veins and Frequently Being Stuck

Veins and Frequently Being Stuck was created by Luvmycat
My husband has been getting frequent blood work for about 13 years. His veins are so scarred from being stuck that the technicians have a hard time. His hema put "butterfly only" on his standing order. They even used a baby needle last time and he still got a big knot and bruise on the back of his hand. They have literally run out of places to stick him!

Do any of you have this problem? I don't know what can be done to make it any easier. :(

I have the same problem. My only solution is to use the butterfly too. I realized the problem was occurring years ago and decided to try to limit blood work, so I'd go every two weeks instead of every week, etc. Sometimes you have to decide if it's really necessary.

I once had techs want to use my foot because they stuck me five times and couldn't get the needle in.

Years ago my doctor wanted me on weekly blood work. I started having issues with my veins so I started refusing. My lab reqs now read PRN patience request needed. When I think my counts are dropping I get a count.

I'm with Sandi we need to be monitored but to what extent?
