Slammed,

It is good to speak with a kindred soul! 5 years ago I weighed in at 285 or so. I was big and getting bigger. I had never been that way before. I used to model! There is a picture on one of the links to prove it! LOL But that was a long time back. And as I look back I did not and do not want to get old, I am least honest! Anyway I got motivated. I lost about 110 pounds and got into triathlon and endurance events. Then ITP and prednisone! You know the rest. I am working on it in earnest now that I have my knee repaired. I just hope it can deliver what I want from it.

You know, I just fell in love with the life style of fitness and triathlons. It is young, active, and alive! I WILL NOT LET IT GO!

It is something that I can do just for me. But I will admit that prednisone laid a butt whoopin on me! But, I will also say that I will beat it! I have an oncologist appointment this week and he will tell me to slow down and I will just laugh like I have for the last year. I tell him a fit patient is a good patient!

You know you brought up a great point. I have not been doing any interval training and I think that I will get into my cycle starting tomorrow. It is a great calorie burner.

Take care!

Jeff

A friend was admitted to hospital last week with stomach/back pains & had various tests done. She has been taking cholesterol medication & recently bought a 'yip yah, you beaut' juicer. Apparently the enzymes in the juice can interfere with the medication. She is much better since stopping the excess 'multi' juice.
Here was I thinking is it sounded a good idea. Better to just stick with my meat & veggies, salad & fruit. As for the chocolate . . . I'm hopeless!

MJ,

Somehow I think that you are quite the cook! Just a hunch! Stay with the natural foods. You are on the right track. No more nose bleeds? How is the garden?

Hi ya Jeffrey,
Yep - right into food (nutrition, recipes, cooking etc.) Have just spent this Sunday afternoon looking for camping recipes for when we eventually get away. Very excited - getting new camper trailer next month.
Half way through harvest - going well. No woopsies in the paddock by me . . yet.
Spent a few hours in the garden yesterday trimming bushes & mulching. Bit sore today . . :silly:

Does anyone have comments on this Green Organic Superfood powder made by Amazing Grass?? My nephew sent a big jar of it as a gift. Not sure if I should take it though it seems to be made up of food- not sure what some of the "foods" are?? I am taking Promacta 25mg and prednisone 5mg. Below is a list of ingredients:

green food: wheat and barley grass, alfalfa, spirulina, spinach, chlorella, broccoli.
antioxidants: acai, maca, carrot, beet, raspberry, rose hips, pineapple, goji berries, green tea, acerola cherry.
fiber: flax seed powder, apple pectin fiber.
probiotics: chicory root, acidophilus, protease, amylase, lipase, lactase, cellulase.

on another subject: I've been reading about Vit K and its importance in the blood clotting cascade. It can be used as a remedy for blood that is too thin from overdose of Cumidin- (prescription blood thinner). It comes from dark green leafy veggies. Seems like a good thing for those who have low counts. I take a Bone Complex (calcium) from Whole Foods that has vit k1 and Vit k2 in it. Anyone else take Vit K? They say you don't need much, and its rare to have a deficiency.

I'm out to lunch on the Vitamin K. I can see where it might be useful to aid clotting, but I've never heard of any doctors recommending it as a way to reduce symptoms. You'd think if it were that beneficial, we'd hear more about it. Getting it from food is one thing. Taking supplements is another.

Also, more research keeps popping up about ITP also being a thrombic disorder as well as a bleeding disorder. If you start messing with the clotting cascade while you are using treatments to raise counts or stimulate platelet production, you could be risking blood clots.

I'm not a big fan of products with a lot of ingredients. You never know how they could affect platelets or if there are any adverse reactions to medications. I'd look each one up individually.

If eating properly I would think one is getting enough vitamin K. I would not take any type of K supplement unless blood work showed I needed it!

I am currently taking the Centrum Silver for women as well as other supplements such as calcium, CoQ10, fish oil, extra D, extra C and extra B. I have been taking the CoQ10 since 1994 and it helps a great deal with energy level. Have yet to try it at "therapeutic levels." In fact, I have been on some sort of supplemental vitamins for most of my life. Perhaps this and the "too much" sleep I get has been good for me?

Vitamin K is used to treat people who take warfarin or cumadin when there INR gets too high.

I took a picture of the supplements I have been taking: An interested comment I got was "wow that is one expensive pee".

If you are going to try something or do something remember just changing your diet doesn't fix you over night. First when you change your diet your body has to learn to do without the old and get used to the new. Than after a while of being on the new the body will either use it or not.

I take the following daily, every other day, every few days,
(trying to remember to get into a routine)

1 menosense (natural supplement instead of going on hormones for menopause) family doc recommended it.
1 calcium (because early menopause can lead to bone thining)
1 vitamin D (because early menopause can lead to bone thining)
1 chewable vitamin C (So I do not get sick)
1 chewable kids multi vitamin
1 B complex (hoping it would help with my mood swings related to menopause)

Most importantly I must add this. Years ago when I younger I had the doctor do checking because I never ate fruits and veggies growing up. He tested my vitamin levels and said they were normal. So where was I getting it from? Something I ate or was my body producing it?
