Splenectomy - Remission - Pregnancy was created by Jonsdottir
Hi,

I had a splenectomy in 2003 and have been in remission now for 10yr. I was diagnosed with ITP five weeks after my second pregnancy. Is it save for me to get pregnant again or will it increase the risk of activating the ITP again? :S I have two wonderful children (boy 12yr & a girl 10yr) so maybe it is just selfishness of me to take the change?

kind regards

Hi. My thought is that anything could cause a remission to end, such as a cold or an antibiotic, etc. You can't avoid everything that might cause ITP to recur. If it were me, I wouldn't consider a baby a selfish thing at all and I'd go for it.
