Word or warning! DO NOT GET A SUN BURN!

Never let yourself get sun burned! Specially if you have lower platelets. Last count 37 and I got a sun burn. The burn wasn't the main issue it is that stage when it starts to get itchy!


OMG it is so itchy and I just had to scratch the itch. Well what happens when you scratch too much with lower platelets. You get petechiae. Now my neckline area looks horrible because I've been scratching. UGH!!!!

On a good note the spots I had on my arms are harder to see because i'm red from the burn.

Get you some after sun lotion with aloe! I did not know you could get a sunburn in Canada! LOL

Hey, Jeffrey, we do get sun occasionally up here, you know! Not everyone lives in the cold. :lol:

This made me laugh! I am notorious for a nasty sun burn! It never ceases! I can put 50+ on every hour and I still get burned! All of us autoimmune zombies are just so pitiful! I live in Charleston, SC, so it is basically impossible to beat th heat! My makeup and lotions all have spf in them b/c if not I burn! Not to mention, I am one, huge giant freckle during the summer time! When I was younger I had to be tan...now I do not CARE! Maybe fair skin will come back into style??!?!

NatalieM didn't you hear! Fair skin is back in style people have been asked for many years now to avoid the sun as so they do not get skin cancer. Now there is an increase in people who suffer from low vitamin D and now need daily supplement!


Jeffrey I am putting lotion on it. and haha on the Canada joke! Not like we haven't heard that one before!

PS: Cindy don't tell Jeffrey we don't live in igloos ok that way when it dawns on him that I got a sun burn he sit there puzzled trying to figure out how the Igloos don't melt!

I really don't blame you for getting sun burnt. Living in Ohio, we don't see the sun much so when it does come out its a joyous occasion! Lots of lotion and try not to scratch!

Pdsa posted an article about vitamin d deficiency and how the pros of sun outweigh the risks of skin cancer for people with auto immune diseases. Im using it to help build my case of why we need to move back to Arizona. Lol my bf seems to be falling for it.

Probably being very stupid, but is this post saying that people with auto immune conditions are affected by the sun more so than other people? And the itching you mentioned, is that auto immune realated?

I ask as both this and last summer my daughter has had terrible itching on her back and neck. I can't remember about last year but this time it was the same time as getting slightly burned.

The itching was that bad that she couldn't sleep and she was scratching all day, including laying on the floor trying to scratch it on the carpet and constantly begging us and friends to scratch it. Of course she was then covered in petechiae.

My itching was from my burn and it trying to heal. My burn was caused by being in the sun for 4hrs on the water. When you are on the water the sun is reflected off the water giving you a double dose.


My burn wasn't healing properly because platelets also help in the healing process low platelets longer to heal.


Usually itching is something you feel when things are healing. As for your daughter I'm not sure I honestly can answer that. I do not think it is immune related other than the fact that platelets help in the healing process. Our immune system is killing the platelets so only in that sense it would be related.
