remission almost 3 years but need help. was created by Krinn2014
I was diagnosed in august of 2009 and my counts got so bad to where I had 1 single platelet in my body and wouldn't respond to steroids. My oncologist suggested spleen removal and got that done in September of 2009 and been in remission since but all of a sudden I've gotten a couple red pinpoint dots on inside of cheeks and a couple on inside of lip and been experiencing headaches more frequent and tingling feet. I'm not quite sure if this is an episode of my ITP returning or something else I'm looking for opinions on what to do and any other suggestions others might have. thank you.

What you need to do is get a platelet count done so you know if your count is good or bad and your doctor knows if it is good or bad. Then go from there.

I go by the rule: When in doubt check it out
and also what is in my signature:
"Instead of wasting your time worrying about symptoms, just get it checked out." -Nieca Goldberg, MD

Looks like you have been in a remission for almost 5 years if your splenectomy of 9/2008 worked.

Keep us posted - hope your count is great!

I agree with Melinda, go get a platelet count! That is the only way to rule out a recurrence of ITP. If your counts are okay then you can deal with the headaches with help from your dr.

Good luck!

Yup - agree with the others. Get a count and you'll know. Give us an update!

Platelets are measured in microliters, so you'd have had approximately 1 platelet per microliter, not just one in your entire body. Just an FYI.

.....and a count of 1 is almost always a count of 1000.

Agree with everyone else. No way to know without a platelet count.

You're right, Tamar. I was having a definite 'duh' moment! I'm up too late! 1,000 platelets per microliter.
