Has anyone before broke out in petiekas and if so does that mean a drop in the platelet count?

When my counts were very low, I had them everywhere. They would usually start on my neck and the inside of my arms. The main symptom I go by is the bruising. If my counts are low, I bruise even by clothing touching my skin.

However, even when my counts are high I still have a few.

Today, I went for my CBC and the nurse drew blood and I saw petichae forming around the puncture and I was thinking oh no, this means low counts. Well no my counts were 358.

People on here have stated similar things such as petichae do not necessarily mean low counts, but could. I hope that helps.

Petechiae could mean a drop, but not always. The only way to know is to have a count done. If it looks like this, I'd definitely get a count.

That and the blood in my nose were my signs I had something wrong. I had so many of those P's that you could see no regular skin on my legs. Lesser amounts in my mouth and everywhere else. Apparently, the amount was unusual as they kept bringing nurses in to see it. (I'd rather be a star in some other way.) Then my count was 10,000 but that dropped to zero for nearly ten days despite 7 ivigs and 2 winrhos. But then my platelets rose at over 1,000 a day. You just can't tell what is going to happen. But I would think more than a few P's would be cause for action.

Has prednisone worked for you in the past? I'm sorry you have to wait until Monday for IVIG's that seems like a long wait when your count is that low.

I'm curious how low until you get hospitalized.

I'm one of those odd folk who would have to be bleeding uncontrollably before I'd allow myself to be hospitalized again for ITP.

I have only been talked into being hospitalized one time for ITP, that was at least 10 years ago. Count was 4k at that time.
Since then, I've been at 4k or less so often that it has ceased to be scary. Whenever I get under 10k, I can take Dexamethasone at home for a quick boost, sleep in my own bed, go to work, etc. Dex is what they gave me for treatment in the hospital anyway. I'll let that hospital bed remain available for someone who really needs it.
I'm usually only around 12k-20k with treatment anyway, low counts are are just low counts to me.
So if the counts are under 10k and I'm not having bad symptoms, life continues.
Actually, even if I AM having bad symptoms, life still continues. Chainsaws cannot juggle themselves ya know.

But everyone is different.

I've never been hospitalized either under 5k, just started treatment. Usually, symptoms matter more than counts.
