Going Strong!! was created by AmandaPeters7
I am pleased to say that I am doing very well, platelets are 156k and have been in that range for weeks now. I am enjoying my life and love going to work as an EMT in Manhattan, I also have my loving fiance by my side. I have a whole life ahead of me and I try to live and learn each day and hope that others learn from my story. Months ago I used to dwell over the thought that ITP may come back but I realized that I was only setting myself up for disaster. Don't get me wrong, I still get scared sometimes and that's ok, but I'd rather spend my time having fun with the ones I love and it gives me great pleasure to don my FDNY uniform and work for the greatest city in the world. I know that I will never know for sure whether it will or won't come back and nothing is set in stone, but it's awareness that makes the difference. As long as I have my cuddle buddy with me to keep me company in the hospital god forbid I ever need treatment again in my life, I'll be good. Just know there is hope.

I will definitely check in with everyone as much as I can. I'm so glad i found this website, there's so much support and others who understand the daily struggles. Lucky for me I am doing well, but obviously I have to get checked out once in a while to make sure I'm still ok. Unfortunately, ITP has no cure so it's possible it could strike at any moment again. The big day is 9/6/14, super excited! Time goes by so fast, seems like yesterday we just started planning it. There will be no damper on my day, I will make sure of it!

I will not let something like this dictate my life any longer. I'm living a perfectly great life with little to no complications. The only thing I stay away from is aspirin...god forbid I take that and find out later my platelets are low again, I'll be in somewhat trouble but at least that can be fixed too.

Aspirin won't lower counts, but it can thin the blood. Taking one with high counts wouldn't be a tragedy, but there is probably no real need for it when there are other OTC's available.

It can be a perfectly great life, despite and including ITP! Well said!

So this is the quickest update ever...on my period and it's about the 5th day in and even though it's not heavy it's bright red. I'm finding bruises, some blood came out of my gums as I brushed my teeth, and the grand finale, just located a couple very small red dots. Not going to really worry, at least if something happens I'm surrounded by the brotherhood and in a hospital approximately every hour. At least working and focusing on others' ailments keeps my mind at bay lol

Well i still remember it like it was yesterday sometimes. I was noticing dots in my mouth and I finally went to the doctors and I asked them what was wrong. And they just ran tests and came to me and told me I need to go to the hospital and told me my platelets were at a count of 1 and I needed to go now but I wasn't sure what was wrong. As I got theirs they ran numerous tests and told me my diagnosis, itp but I didn't know what it was or how this would effect my life. The first hospital I went to they said I need platelet transfusion I got 15 of them and 8 ivig still nothing worked and they had to plug my nose with balloons mind you this hospital wasn't the best one to go to and made my nose even worse. I was just in the mids of going into the military I swore in and everything I was supposed to leave Agust 11 2015 and I thought ohh this won't take long or effect my military but I was in for a rude awakening. I was in the hospital for 9 days till I decided to take this to another hospital Hershey medical center were it was a lot better and they ran more tests after all my nose bleeds constant trips up to the hospital I still believed I was going to leave for basic. As I went their they ran tests as well and they started me on retucsimab witch was the worst feeling in the gm world after a while and I was on steroids for 3 months or more. After my 4 retucsimab treatments nothing worked finally they do a bone marrow biopsy to see if I had cancer but found no signs of cancer. I still thought I would be going to basic, but still no progress finally more ivig and now I'm on this pill called premacta and has worked as far as I know. But after nose bleeds they gave me injection to make my blood sticky well that caused a blood clot in my lung and was on blood thinner one day I started bleeding and I lost half a quart of blood I was in the hospital for a bit. Then finally the pill kicked in and they gave more ivig and I was 47 days till I left for basic but had to tell my recruiter for the national guard I had to postpone the basic and they tried everything they could to keep me but what broke me was them calling and saying they were discharging me was the worst day in my life. As of now I still have itp it's almost been a year with it and one times I feel as if I lay down and let life beat me to the ground would be ok but that other part of me says get up don't fall down stay strong this will blow over soon I can't wait for the day that they say I don't have itp anymore. But as of now I don't think of itp I think of living everyday how I would normally live it without worrying.
