Hi Everyone,

Just wanted to let you know that I am a wee bit miserable! Yesterday I was feeling unwell, very tired and sore in my abdomen. I was trying to force myself to sleep but the stomach pain got worse and worse and around 11:00pm i started vomiting blood, got violent diarrhea and blood in the urine. After about 3rd incident of bloody vomiting I asked my hubby to take me to the ER. Interestingly platelets were at 20,000 at the time of admission so not even that low. I spent the night under the drip for dehydration and my hubby on a chair. So here I am the next day waiting for some more blood draws and results - I am glad the platelets are keeping up and there is still no mention of treatment. It was still a scary experience! It looks like some kind of gastro issue and the bleeding brought about by the ITP.

Thank you for listening. I hope the rest of the results turn out ok.

Hi Ania,
You poor girl - that sounds awful! Glad you have your man beside you :)
Not knowing what the problem is can be very worrying, so I hope they have worked it out for you & you can rest now.
Cheers,

Thank you all for the words of encouragement, really appreciate it!

I'm feeling a lot better now, was discharged from the hospital after 24 hours. They believe it was a nasty case of gastrointestinal virus that caused the symptoms that were exacerbated by ITP and this resulted in the bleeding in the stomach and urine  . It all settled by now. They also mentioned that it might been the ITP that caused the bleeding that resulted in the virus-like symptoms. Anyway, they left the investigation to my GP and hema and were happy to send me home once they saw the platelets were at 20,000 and hemoglobin level was ok too.

On the night when it happened I asked my husband to take me to ER after I had read that vomiting blood was never a good sign - poor him was so worried he forgot where the nearest hospital was and left the house in his slippers

They put me on a drip, gave me something to stop the vomitting and did a blood test. It was very long night and my first time ever in hospital.

Also, on a different note, we have recently decided to try for a baby so we're even more worried of any potential health problems. Fingers crossed it all goes well and hopefully there will be some good news in the next few months? (however scary this journey will be with ITP)

Thank you all again,

Ania

I'm glad you are okay! I'm sure that was very scary. Sometimes when vomiting, blood vessels in the throat rupture which can cause blood in the vomit too. Whatever the cause, you did the right thing.

Ania!

What news! Great! ITP is not scary, children (especially daughters) now THAT IS SCARY!
