Vitamin B12 deficiency & ITP was created by Rose
Hello everyone. Today I heard a Physician on the radio speaking about Vitamin B12 deficiency and autoimmune disorders. I am wondering if anyone has information regarding B12 and ITP? I have done several internet searches and indeed there is some interesting info out there. Any input from our ITP community would be wonderful (for all of us). Thank You and have a great evening!

All I can add to this is that many people with autoimmune disorders also tend to have vitamin deficiencies. I see it here all the time and have the same problem. Getting the vitamin level to normal does not help with the autoimmune disorder though.

Hi Rose,
My hematologist checked my B12 level and it was low to depleted in Nov. 2011. I started having B12 injections every 2 weeks and my platelets went up. I dropped the B12 injections to once a month and my platelets went down to 6K.
During 2012, most of the year they were 6K to 10K.
Last July 2012, I started the B12 injections every 2 weeks and again the platelets went up to 26K at first than dropped.
January 2013, I started on B6 plus still taking B12 injections every 2 weeks and my platelets jumped to 30K. Than they went back down to 10K by April 2013 as I had a cold. July 22, 2013, platelets were up to 23K which I am so thankful for platelets to be 20K or above.
If you have B12 levels checked, would know if it were necessary to have the B12 injections.
Good luck!
