Anyone know why a white cell count would increase

a lot even though I have no infections? I read somewhere that some platelets are taken for white blood cells if they are large. Could this be the reason? Every week they are increasing. Don't know why and nobody has said boo about it.

Is it because of the prednisone?

The prednisone made my white counts go up. Pretty common from what I have read.

Ha ha.....I know what you mean!

I did have some pros on it....I had boundless energy and my house was the cleanest and most organized its ever been and i could literally workout for hours non-stop. My bf jokes that I should take some every once in a while to get this house in order. Other than that its a pretty nasty drug. However, it seems to be helping you so that is good!

My WBC was really high when I was on pred. If you are, I would guess that's the culprit.

It's due to demargination. Some white cells usually hide out in the tissues but steroids make them come out into the general blood stream and they then get counted.

Yup, agree with the others. It's the Prednisone. It's temporary and nothing to worry about.

What else does it screw up? It can affect calcium and potassium levels. It can also raise blood sugar and blood pressure.

Yes, my blood sugar went up to 150 when I was at the high doses, but fortunately, it was back down to 105 a couple weeks later. My blood pressure was sky high a number of times in the hospital 185/90 or whatever. They kept injecting with me with something and I was taking verapamil 3 times a day. I wish this taper were over so I could know if I was going to need anything else. I am sick of ITP after 42 days. I can imagine how the rest of you feel.

You get used to it if you have to. Just something that you learn to fit into your life. In time, you figure out how to put it on the back burner and just focus on other things in life.

My white cell count is really high right now too. I'm on 25mg prednisone. My doc did not mention it so it is most likely from the prednisone. I saw it on my printout that I asked for. I'm really better off not getting that printout because then I can just obsess about it. I will ask her about it on Tuesday appt.

Last time I was on prednisone I cleaned my house, my room at work, my yard, had endless energy. This time I'm just restless but can't get anything done.

My white cells are too low....just the opposite, even with Prednisone. Specifically, lymphocytes and eosinophils. Good rule: don't worry unless the doctor tells you to.

Dru!

Happy Memorial Day! No, I think you would have enough to get you through a round of Prednisone here! LOL

We worked on the flower beds all day yesterday and reset several hundred pavers (bricks). I am so sore my eye lids hurt! Where were you?????

I hope you and your family are having a great weekend!

Sandi! Sending you a bunch of rain and it is chilly too! Your Welcome!

Jeffrey
