I have been on prednisone for about 5 wks. Currently taking 20 mg a day. The past few days I have had a sore throat. Anyone else get that?

  • I developed hemolytic anemia in 1999 and ITP in 2005. Treatments have been splenectomy, prednisone, IVIG, and Rituxan.

Roberta,

It could be unrelated to prednisone. I sometimes get oral thrush on prednisone which can cause a sore throat. My dr gives me a mouth rinse for it.

Prednisone lowers your immune system so if you come in contact with someone sick you might be more likely to get it.

When I was on prednisone, I use to get unusual problems and also got the oral thrush (ugh!).
Mine was caused by Decadron which is stronger than prednisone. I used the oral mouth rinse, too.

Like Dru, said, it does lower your immune system. One of my biggest problems as I came off of steroids was severe ear aches or itching in the ears.

I got mine from my grandsons who arrived with snot down to their waists about ten days ago.

I used to get achy, too, when my platelets were low. That's why it's important to rest when you can. Hope you both feel better soon.
