Alison,

I do get very tired and feel like I am fighting the flu but not breathless or chest pain. Are you on any steroids or any other medicines? They can cause those type of side effects. It might be nothing, but I think you should tell your doctor about those symptoms just to be on the safe side.

You are one of the only other people ive heard say this! I get the same thing, its a very difficult feeling to describe, but it feels like I have a pain deep in my chest, and like I can't take a deep breath, but I want to. This only happens for me when my platelets are extremely low - like 10k.

I'm not on any medication and I only get on something when I show signs, so sometimes I will have this feeling and if it's accompanying petechia and bruising, I may do a round of dex. But other times I just wait and see and it eventually goes away.

Tthe one thing I've started noticing might (and I stress the word might, because as you know with ITP everything is a guess) be a correlation is the amount of caffeine I have when that feeling comes. if I've really let myself become caffeine addicted again, it seems to come back faster.

As far as "help you", I've never found anything that can help it (except an increase in platelets), and only one other person on this site has ever said she had it as well (I cannot remember who - it was a long timer though). Most of the tme it just goes away. But it does make me worry as well.

It was me! I wonder if it has anything to do with the thymus gland which is situated there and is involved in the immune system.

I have experienced that too! Last time a couple of weeks ago with the counts of 18k and it wasn't related to any medications as i haven't started any treatment yet. A very strange dull chest pain that makes breathing harder. I had it on and off for a few days. Hope it doesn't come back as I am trying my best to prepare for my half marathon next Sunday!

Ann - it would make sense to perhaps relate to the thymus gland, maybe worthwhile to do some research.

KittieG - I have been very bad with coffee as well lately, too much to go throgh in my day. It's my resolution to cut down of caffeine but been struggling so far :(

Ann - sorry I forgot it was you! I've dropped off the boards for a bit.

I think I will bring this up to some of the docs at the conference to see if they have any suggestions as to what it may be. I'm gonna look up this thymus gland though, thanks!
