Ive been a member of this site for many years, I went through all of the treaments 9 years ago. After the splenectomy,IVG, gammglubin, predisone, dex pulse and a bunch of other treatments , I did Rituxan and after 2 years of numbers in the low 1000 I started to come up..Well after holding onto 200-280K for so many years , my numbers are now climbing into the 500-600K which they say is now too high... Not sure what to do , gonna watch and wait to see if they continue to climb.. I got and explantion from a Dr. my daughter works with whom is a nurse now after seeing what I ve been through for so long ..His explanation was that finally after all of these years I might really be in some kind of remission...Not sure if I believe that, but Im diabetic and have had other issues the last year. Just had shoulder surgery after tearing my labrum and my rotator cuff and I ve been taking ibubrofen sine Aug. when I did this to my shoulder. Not sure if the pain meds now have me going the other way out of control. My reg. Dr. wants me to get blood work every couple of months to see what is going on.. Just want to see if anyone eles has made the turnaround I did..from not enough to going to have too many....Some people may recognize my user name gofishguy from years ago..Have been off the site for a while but would check in everyonce in a while.. any thoughts would be appreciated..

I remember you! Nice to see you back.

Remission can happen any time with ITP. It's just a matter of the non-production of antibodies. That can occur since antibodies come and go and as easily as you produced them, you can also stop producing them. Since your counts are in or above normal range, it is definitely considered to be remission.

Splenectomies do sometimes cause a high platelet count. It's more common in people without ITP, but can also occur in those with ITP. You do need to keep an eye on it since both splenectomies and higher platelet counts can be associated with clotting risks.

Hi, I remember you too. My user name is different than it was in 2005' don't even remember what it was. I currently have high platelets at 475k. I had an itp relapse in February and counts went gradually up to 300s and now this. My hema was not worried as I have a lot of allergy symptoms and she said inflammation can cause them to be high.
