My son(23) works out fanatically. He has ITP(his normals are from 9,000-30,000) He is taking whey protein(100%) protein shakes to work out, is this safe? Has anyone heard of anything negative from protien?

Replied by alicein on topic Whey Protein
Dairy contains three components. Whey - which is the protein of dairy. Casein which is the carb of dairy. And fat, which is obviously fat (like butter). Whey protein is taken from milk and fractionated from the other dairy components and turned into powder form to provide high protein either as a lone source or more commonly added to just about any processed food you buy in a store. So, yes, all told, whey protein is safe. Given a good source and quality of whey, it can be a very beneficial source of protein for a person.

The only thing I caution is that dairy is a high allergen for a lot of people so if he were to have a dairy allergy then using whey protein would make it worse.
