ITP and Headaches?

ITP and Headaches? was created by laurensparkles
Hi everyone!

My name is Lauren and I was diagnosed with ITP in October of 2011 when I was 17. Now at almost 19, I am still riding the roller coaster ride of ITP but thankfully haven't been put on treatment since last March. My counts stay in the 25-40,000 zone. My hematologist now has my counts checked every month....

At the end of January my count jumped up to 69,000!! The highest my platelets have been without treatment since diagnosis!! But, sadly at this months' check I had dropped down to 37,000 :(.

I was wondering if anyone else deals with headaches when their counts drop off. (No recent head trauma and no symptoms indicating a serious problem)... it's not a massive headache...just an annoying ache that develops over the day...for the past five days...

Anyone else out there?

Yes, I had more migraines with low counts. Also, even the smallest amount of alcohol would leave me with a migraine (I'm SURE that isn't your problem!!)

I could say that the stress of knowing my counts were down (and treatment was coming) caused headaches, but not the counts themselves.

I had a dull headache when mine was so low, but not migraine-like.

Glad someone brought this up. Have been having regular headaches lately - wake up with one which gradually dissipates during the day. Thought I was dehydrated (summer here) but platelet count last week was down to 25. Ho hum . . So now I am being a good girl :silly: until another blood test next week. Hope it is back up to 30 - don't need any more drama in my life.

Finally! Someone else who shares my daughter's dilemma. She was diagnosed in October 2012 with ITP. Since then she has been fighting migraine like headaches. We have an appt with neurologist in a month. She also has had no head trama. Her count bounces all around also. The Tylenol does not help her at all

Her ITP doctor thinks it could be the prednisone but wants her to see neurologist. He refuses to treat her headaches. Oh and she had a normal CT scan
