ITP AND OTHER RELATED ILLNESSES

Has anyone experienced any other illnesses after being diagnosed with ITP. I was diagnosed 25 years ago, went into remissiom and then two years ago it returned with a vengence. But at this time I've been diagnosed with Epstein bar and now my toes and fingers are going numb, turning white and blue, feel tired all the time and joint pain. Was wondering if it had anything to do with the ITP. Has anyone else experienced anything like this.

Many of us on the board have more than one autoimmune disease. In my cause it is also Hashimoto's thyroiditis. While it may be interrelated, it's unlikely that ITP caused what your describing.

MKC - the white and blue fingers and toes sounds like Raynauds. Have you looked into that?

I was diagnosed with Lupus 8 years after ITP. Sometimes the CFS and fibromyalgia diagnoses are really a slow developing Lupus. That's what happened to me and several others. Good luck.

Thank you Sandi. I went to the Doctor today and he confirmed the Raynauds. He is also testing further for lupus and a few other things he didn't mention. I should find out something by the end of the week.

In addition to ITP I have hemolytic anemia, fibromyalgia, vertigo migraines, and raynuads. For the raynuads I always keep some kind of hand warmer, a microwaveable heat pad when I am home and when I'm out some of those instant warmers they make for hikers and skiers. It really helps and keeps from progressing from white to blue.

Dru,
This is the first time I've seen someone else with hemolytic anemia on here. Was it a result of ivig treatments? I had a reaction to the ivig and ended up with hemolytic anemia. My hemoglobin was 1.6 at its lowest in April.

Sorry, I just saw this post from a while ago. No I did not develop hemolytic anemia from IVIG. I developed it in 1999 and was treated with prednisone and then a splenectomy. I developed ITP in 2005. I'm not sure what my hemoglobin was, hematocrit was 17 when diagnosed and was in the hospital.

In addition to ITP, I have Grave's disease. I was diagnosed at 22 and went into remission at 24. I was diagnosed with ITP at 27. Unfortunately, in our cases our immune systems do not like us. Hopefully someday we will have answers as to why our immune systems do not like us. I think it def has to do with environmental factors.
