My son's counts (besides platelets of coarse) seem to be pretty good, but it says Atypical lympocytes 13.0(H) and the labs range says <=6% most things I can find on google but I am not finding anything related to ITP, Just wondering if anyone knows anything about this..

Crystal:

I have had atypical lymphocytes before that were flagged as high and in the 60's. It wasn't related to ITP, and can be caused by some viruses. My hemo was not concerned and they eventually went back to normal. I wouldn't worry unless his doctor tells you to.

I just went through a scare this past week with white cells. My Rheumatologist called to tell me that my neutrophils were too high, and monocytes, lymphocytes and eosinphils were all too low. She wanted me to see my hemo for possible lymphoma or leukemia. I got there today and said "I hope you're going to tell me that my Rheumatologist was overreacting and I don't need to be here". He said "Yep" and that was the end of that. He said that he thought it was due to the Methotrexate that I was injecting the past year and a half.

They will tell you if it's something to worry about.

I just went and found Dougie's last count report, but its post rituximab, so I think he has the opposite problem. Range is 1.5 to 4.5 and his count was 0.95. Maybe we count it different in the UK. I think high lympocytes can just mean that you are fighting a virus though? Have you thought about asking the Dr - probably going to be the best bet to stop you worrying.

Atypical lymphocytes are otherwise known as reactive lymphocytes. They are larger than normal, a bit odd looking and dented or folded. They are usually a reaction to a virus or bacteria. They won't worry until they've seen it last a while.

I had my own lymphoma scare too with the ENT doctor finding an enlarged painless lymph node. Went to GP a few weeks later and it was still there. She said lets wait a couple of weeks more and when I went back last week it was gone. I've found a good GP at last, she took some finding, and she got her senior colleague to come and check too. They couldn't feel the lymph node so we put it down to the immune deficiency disorder playing up and lymphoma goes away again.. so Sandi, I feel your relief.

Thank you, his lympocytes and neutrophils are often off, this is the first time I have seen this Atypical and of coarse got curious which lead ot worry.

You are all correct I am sure she would of mentioned something if it was something to worry about, but she got some results, and got the rest at the end and she didn't really look at those. Also it was the ped not hematologist.

His absolute and relative are in range this time..strange..

My white cells are rarely in range. I stopped worrying about it. This was the first time that I had a doctor tell me that it might be something to worry about. I have almost become numb to hearing about bad test results, because 9/10 it turns out to be nothing or something else that can be managed.

Ann, if I could drink, I'd toast you for our good news!
