Thought I would put this out there in the event someone would like to know but we found a couple of interesting things regarding our 23 year old son with ITP. He was on a hard boiled egg kick for eating healthy and his platelets bottomed out and we found out that Execedrin and Motrin can bottom out the platelets also.

We were told he can only use Tylenol and lots of eggs would lower his platelets as we found out.

Thought I would share this.

I know that Motrin, Excedrin and hard boiled eggs can inhibit platelet aggregation, but have never heard that they lower platelets. Who told you that?

The hemotologist told us and his regular physician. So, only Tylenol from now on and actually all those eggs caused severe migraines also which landed him in hospital of which they suggested all the above.

Doctors usually do tell ITP patients to stick to Tylenol. Excedrin has aspirin in it which is worse than Ibuprofen, so I'd sure stay away from that one.

Eggs are good in moderation, but I wouldn't go on crazy with them.

Sandi, do you if Aleve is ok for people with ITP? I'm told we can get it here in Canada now, and would like to try it.

Aleve is an NSAID, just like Motrin and Advil, so it is one of the ones that people with ITP are told to stay away from. However, I've taken large doses daily for years with no problems. I think if counts are good, a person could use them in moderation. They are not known to lower platelets, just affect coagulation.

Thanks! My counts are in the normal range, so maybe I'll try it.
