Vitamin D.... again was created by ashybobashy
Hi just to let you know,

Its important to check all your vitamin levels. I have had itp for years but this year the count seemed to stay down quite low, not too low but it was enough to get me frustrated. Anyway i started to feel so lethargic and in the end after going to the docs so many times he tested my vit d level and it turned out i was very low in vit d. My point is: if you feel like you are not feeling the best or are unhappy with any treatments relating to itp and feel they dont work, always get a second opinion. Your health is your wealth and doctors are not always that clued in. I went back countless times saying i felt unwell and i got the most aggravating answer: "Oh, maybe your stressed" or "maybe your depressed!" I swear i felt like screaming at them. It was the same when i told a doctor that i refused to be on steroids for ITP as it made no difference to my count and made me feel strange. It went up a few thousand then back down. In the end I asked for a second opinion and they put me on an immuno suppresant which after a few months slowly lifted my platelet level. Its not perfect but im off the tablets. I felt crap though and finally found out that i have low vitamin d. There are links of auto-immune diseases with vit d defiecency. Its worth just to get that checked. Always ask for a full profile check.

I agree wholeheartedly. I was such a workaholic the first 10 years when I was first diagnosed I never paid attention to my ITP. i finally went to an Integrative doctor and did a ton of research on my own. My avg count was probably 7k over the years now it's 90k, which is incredibly high for me. My vit D & B12 were very low so i started on 10k IU/day of D & 5k vit b12. No other treatments have worked for me including predisone, i take 12 different vit a day as well as coconut oil and a shot of wheatgrass daily. Definitely ask your dr for a vit level test bc ITP is probably induced by other underlying issues that could be easiy fixed w/o all the drugs.

I feel great and i can't stress the importance of getting your vit levels checked and re-evaluating your lifestyle which includes exercise, yoga/meditation, eating right & reduced stress!
