New here, with some questions. was created by sybille13
Hi all, I was diagnosed with ITP while i was pregnant with my 2nd child. He is now 7 months old. I have been having a hard time and I don't know if ITP is to blame. I feel silly seeing I do not have it nearly as bad as others. The lowest my platelets have dropped was 45,000. I have only been put on prednisone. My poor son was born with low platelets, but he has been fine after IVIG in the NICU, they do not think it will cause any further issues.

I will start with asking if any of you ever experience dizziness, I now go through days of this. There are many days I am just exhausted and do not have the motivation to do anything. I recently had a catscan and nothing showed up. I am embaressed to say this to a group of people that I don't know, but I am really beginning to feel depressed and just anxious. I just feel like I have no patience for anything. :( Do my numbers even drop low enough to be feeling this way. I guess that is half of my problem, I do not feel like I have any right to be feeling this bad. Is this all the norm for ITP or am I just going crazy?  Thanks!

Well, my first question would be when were you on Prednisone last, for how long, and what was the starting dose? Those sound like typical Prednisone withdrawal symptoms which can last quite a while after stopping it.

If that isn't it, it is possible that ITP is affecting you that way, but it isn't true for everyone at those counts. Sometimes just the idea of having an autoimmune disorder can cause some depression and anxiety that you may not be consciously aware of.

The last time I was on predisone was back in October to help bring up my platelets so I could have a kidney stone blasted. I was on them for about a week, I started at .20.

I doubt it's Prednisone then. Have you been tested for anything else? Low Vitamin levels, thyroid, etc.? Many people with ITP also have secondary problems that no one thinks to look for. How are your counts now?

Hiya, sorry to hear that you are not well. When platelets are down you can feel fatigue which i feel sometimes. The good news is that your platelets are at a manageable level. The one thing i urge you to do is to not suffer with dizziness, fatigue etc. I did that for six months trying to wonder was i just anxious depressed cos basically thats what the doctors were telling me. Apart from the platelets, everything was coming back normal. So i went to the doctor and asked for a more specific blood check. I complained of dizziness, feeling like i had run a marathon, tiredness, no motivation and they checked my vitamin d levels and they were very very low.I even had muscle weakness, tiredness and pain in my muscles. It would be worth to check it including B12 and all the tests. Seriously, dont suffer. You may be a bit sad that you have this condition but honestly, it can be managed. The fatigue can be soul destroying and there is always a reason behind it so get yourself to the doctor and explain how you feel. I spent about six months telling doctors that i felt unmotivated, people thinking i was lazy but i eventually got tested(had not been before) and i now believe that it can play havoc on your system.

by the way not sure if vit d helps with platelets but if you are tired all the time best to check it and iron levels too. Dont take any supplements before checking your blood.
