I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia long before my ITP diagnosis.

I have ITP and myalgia, but it is inflammation due to Lupus. Similar though. Supposedly, steroids do not help fibromyalgia, but they do help Lupus myalgia. Two things I have found that help both is magnesium and Guaifenesin. I noticed after taking them that they seemed to relax the muscles and when I looked it up, they are considered to be valid treatments. It took about 1,000 mg's of magnesium to make a difference. It didn't last long, but it took the edge off. Guaifenesin is the ingredient in Mucinex. It gave me jitters after 2 or 3 days, so I had to use that sparingly.

I have had many scripts over the years...Cymbalta, Lyrica, Celebrex and a ton of others. Lyrica was magic until 2 weeks later when the side effects hit. I have not found anything that really works without intolerable side effects. Cold weather is a killer!

Me? No, I'm not on any med for it. I was prescribed pain killers, but unless it was really bad, didn't take them. I was diagnosed with ITP after a hysterectomy in 2004.

And for me, the pred did help with all the pain issues I had with the fibro and RLS (restless leg syndrome). Been off the pred now for a couple of years, and the pain is back. I just try to deal with it the best I can.

We lost our 11 1/2 year old dog back in Oct. and a week later I fell down a cliff and pulled some ligaments in my knee so that took my mind off the other stuff. That's finally starting to feel better. Was on anti-inflammatories and for a while they helped. The pain med I have is highly addicting, so I only take them when the pain is too bad for the Tylenol to work.

I was on pref to treat my top and it helped until I got below 50 mg but I refuse to stay on it b/c of the weight gain. So far cymbals is working just fear it is causing my platelets to drop

Yes, my fibromyalgia started after I had been on prednisone for several months. That was in 2005 and I have had both fibro and itp since then. In sept I was put on elavil for migraines it is a low dose 20mg and the fibro is not all gone but is MUCH better.

Can you get someone to help you out? Getting some extra rest and especially at least 8 hrs sleep is so important for you. Do you have a friend, neighbor, relative who could help? And don't feel bad to ask for help as it makes the other person feel good too.
