It seems that I'm getting sick and wanted to know what kind of antibiotics can ITP people take? My last hemo doc said Z-pack?

Nose will not stop running and when I cough I feel like I'm going to vomit. I think some of the snot is going down the back of my throat.

You can take whatever is appropriate for the particular infection. Be guided by your doctor. But if it's a virus then any antibiotic will do nothing.

It's basically trial and error. I have been on antibiotics that caused a drop for me, but others with ITP did just fine. I have also been on antibiotics and my count went up, but dropped with the same drug for others.

If it's just a cold, an antibiotic won't help. A good saline nasal rinse will help some.

It's been a mouth and I still have a cough....I take 10mg of pred in am and pm, it helps keep the cough down but doesn't stop it.

It could be whooping cough if it is hanging on that long. If it is and you are a month into it, I think there's nothing to be done except riding it out. My PCP said it was going around and encouraged me to get vaccinated in December. Now my husband is coughing all night, but I have not picked it up from him.

There were some recent articles about how coughs last longer than we think they will, for example: coughs-fool-patients-into-unnecessary-requests-for-of-antibiotics

I had bronchitis and the cough lasted for three months. Then I got pneumonia and it hung on for another six weeks. Coughs can linger.

I know you don't have insurance - if I'm remembering correctly - but a lingering cough should be checked out, sorry. You should be seen just to make sure you do not have pneumonia - just my opinion, get it checked out to be sure you do not have anything else going on!

I saw my family doctor for my CBC and had a cold then (he also gave me the flu shot). I called his cell phone (one week after I saw him) and he put me on med's cipro and pred (which i had at the house). The cold turned into walking pneumonia, so i've been on meds going on 3 weeks.

It can take some time. I had to sleep sitting up for weeks. I hope it goes away soon.

Did you have any repeat x-rays? I had to get a few after the pneumonia.
