Body aches and joint pain was created by nb9094
Had the splenectomy around mid lat july. It seems to have worked for me. Was taken off Pred. just before the 4th of july because it wasnt helping, so im pretty sure it wasnt that. Got an inefection at the wound site, the staples. They treated if with an antibiodic + the antibiodic they gave me as an emergency back up. Got c-diff about a week into the antibiodics (to much antibiodics). I tkink it was about this I time started getting body aches. Also about the same time I stoped taking the pain meds. C-diff has been gone for a while, platelets are good(260). It seems every muscle and joint that has botherd before is hurting now. Pain has continued to get worse everyday. When I get up from sitting the pain is so bad. The first step has to be a planned one. Have to bull one leg in so I can start walking. After about 20 steps or so the pain will clam down a bit. From lower center back, hips, knees, ankles and all the muscles in between. It might just be the muscles and not the joints at all. Also the shoulders and a little in the neck. Had to go to ER a week ago to get a shot for my shoulders.

Sorry to hear this Neil!! Possibly the combo of antibiotics and pain meds? Pred should be out of your system by now. Did they give you a Cortisone shot?

It may be time to see a Rheumatologist. How long were you on Prednisone?

Was on Pred for about 4-6 weeks and then they changed it to dexamethasone, that was back around july 4th. No, I didnt get get any cortisone. Didnt think it would be arthritis because the muscles hurt so bad, at first I thought I was just sore from not doing much of anything and getting back to normal now. The pain is just to much to be soreness, and its getting worse every day???
Thanks

I have been after an answer to this same problem for nearly 18 months after stopping pred, I have recently has a huge ammount of tests done, everything from Vitamin D levels to hormones levels and cortisoid levels, I will let you know what they find when I get the results in October. Sorry to hear you are feeling this, it is very frustrating when things are just not right!
