help please

I have so many questions that i dont know how to start this is new for me in 2009 i was diagnosed with ITP, my platelets count was 130, in 2011 they drop to 115, doctor told me is low but not to worry about it. June 19 i had a surgery and a month after the surgery i start feeling bad. last month my platelets count drop to 4,000 and i was in the hospital for 3 days , two days later my platelets count drop again to 4,000, and i stay in the hospital two day, now im taking Predsisone and im not feeling good it all , im gain weight,muscle weakness,moon face and a lump in my back, i was a very active person happy all the time and now im not the same , i really need help with some feedback.

That is a common side affect of prednisone. Prednisone will only sustain counts as long as you are on the higher doses, like 40-60mg. Once you taper, counts will also drop. You need to consider other treatment options. Do some reading on this fourm for helpful information on treatment options. These are people that have been through this and can tell you their experiences with different treatments. ITP is a wait and see game with treatments. What works for some, may not work for others. We are here for you!!

Thank you Dean, i was taking 40mg for 7 days ,30mg for 7 days now im taking 20 for another 7 day , next week will be my last 7 days with only 10mg.

I assume you will have counts checked soon??

Unfortunately Prednisone often has rotten side effects. They always try it first because it's a fairly easy short treatment, probably 3 months, and does sometimes push people into remission. I had a normal count for 6 weeks after I'd finished with it and then crashed and tried something else.

Here's hoping for high counts for you for a long time.

This is a temporary situation. You will get through it. Prednisone has nasty side effects but it does get better. Hopefully, your counts will stay up as you taper....it does happen sometimes. If not, there are other treatments to try. Hang in there.

I have some blood work today, last time my count was 156 on August 13. I'm so bless that I found this webside thank you. God bless you all.

Mi count was 174 im so happy now im just going to take 10m of prednisone, and after i will take one every other day, thank you for all your feedback.
