Antibiotic effects? was created by viperdriver00
Hi everybody. I'm 39 years old man and affected by ITP for 2 years. I got HP treatment at the beginning of my disease. During the treatment my platelet counts raised from 50.000 to 100.000 but after treatment it went down to 60.000 again. HP bacteria eradication was succesfully completed. Right now my platelet counts weawing arount 60.000. But whenever I take antibiotic ( esp. claritromicin), it raises up to 90.000 again. Does anybody have any idea, why my platelet counts goes up whenever I take claritromicin? Thank you all. Regards

Were you re-tested for the h pylori and shown to be clear? Maybe the infection isn't totally cleared up. Or maybe there is some other infection in your body that is kicking up your immune system, it is suppressed but not killed by the antibiotic? Just some ideas.

I once had that happen with an antibiotic too - can't remember which one it was. My counts would go up every time I took it. I don't know why, just happy that counts were better for a while.

I don't know why my count is staying up. It's been up since I had one Rituxan infusion 7 years ago. I have also been on Prednisone since then (for Lupus) so that could be helping.

My doctors told about these kind of drugs like rituxan and other immunosuppresive agent but did not recommend me them due to their propable side effects. So I did not try them. I've only tried prednisolon and it has worked. But after I leaved to take it, my plt count went down again.

Yes, that happens. Prednisone has side effects too. Most people think Prednisone side effects are worse than Rituxan side effects, so don't count that out yet.

Hi i am constantly on antibiotics as i have common variable immunodeficiency as well as itp and when i have an infection my platelets really crash so i go on to different antibiotics or higher doses and it does improve my platelet count but only because it has tackled the infection. Diane

Hi Diane, thanx for ur comment. I think same as u as well so u can see it in my previous transaction. A bacteria shoud do that. I believe on this but I want to detect this bacteria. This is my topic. What bacteria can it be? HP is not guilty anymore cause it's eradicated. Byee. Atilla
