interesting indeed.... was created by server
Hello everyone, Old timers and newbies! It sure has been a long time! Praying everyone is doing ok. I'll cut right to the chase. I am currently in the hospital for "female problems". No need to really discuss that any further! So, there was some confusion about exactly what my platelet count was. The automated count was 13, but the hand count was 66. It confused my gyn. so my hemo looked into it. It appears that the automated count was mistaking my large/giant platelets as white cells! So all this time it appears that my counts might not have been as bad as thought! OMG! Really? I thought we were dealing with professionals! I've been diagnosed for 2 1/2 years already! Why has no one thought of that before?! Please tell me that this isn't a regular practice. That labs do manual counts a whole lot more frequent than mine did!

My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.
Psalm 73:26
Blessings,
gretchen

It is known that white cells can be counted as platelets with the automated counts. Sometimes other cells of the same size sneak in there. I'm sure platelets of odd sizes are sometimes not counted. It's not an exact science. I haven't heard of that much of a difference though!

Hi Gretchen - I hope you're doing okay!
