Platelet crash was created by florida83
I haven't been on the forum in years..I have been maintaining counts between 75k-105k. I recently tapered my prednisone about a month ago. I am now doing 1mg every other day..a very low dosage. Prior, I was doing 2mg every other day. Anyways, I know I have crashed. I am awaiting my cbc results from today. My nose has been bleeding the past few days, incredible fatigue like no other, and huge bruises on my legs, and now notices either large petichae on my arm are its bruises. Also after my cbc today, my arm bled for at least 30 mins..I was recently sick with a horrible virus that ended last weekend. I was sick about a week or so. I didn't crash while I was sick. Could this be from the virus, or is it the taper? I will know my actual counts tomorrow, but considering I am so symptomatic I am already expecting the worst. Also, I have been super stress with work lately and I also am in school. What could be causing this? I haven't crashed in years..

Florida - it is very unlikely that it had anything to do with the taper. 2 mg's every other day is a teeny tiny dose and losing that 1 mg shouldn't make any difference. The human body produces 5 to 7 mg's of cortisol naturally every day and probably would have just replaced it on its own, especially after a month.

My guess would be the virus or pure coincience.

I hope the news is better than you think!

Sorry to hear this. I would say the crash is due the virus and stress. I am a believer that stress especially "super stress" can affect Platelets and contribute to a crash. Try to relax!!!
Good Luck!!

Wow so my count was 198k. Highest ever. What is making me symptomatic? Also, I have noticed that when I'm off birth control those few days at the end of the packet my counts jump. I had just started my new pack on Tuesday meaning I had only taking one pill. Is this possible?

Florida - anything is possible. Any suggestion any of us have would only be speculation.

I'm glad your counts were good! I'll say it once again, sometimes you really cannot tell if counts are up or down.

Well, "the pill" is a foreign substance to the body as is all other medications. Who knows what else this pill does inside ones body. Ones system may accept it and at any point the body may process it differently. The human body is in constant change.
Just my thoughts.

The pill is a hormone and it is pretty well known that hormones affect autoimmune disorders. However, the pill is designed to keep your body in a rhythmic cycle so I'm not sure that the end of the pack would make a difference. Who knows, though? It's possible.

Maybe the stress and virus caused the symptoms. Try to reduce the stress, if possible. Good to hear your counts are good!
