21 yo in Australia. was created by LauraMcKelvie
Hi, my name is Laura, I was diagnosed with ITP in 2008. I am currently 21 years old. I live in Perth, Western Australia. My latest platelet count was around 10. I have tried prednisolone, splenectomy, rituximab twice, all with little or no success. I am frustrated with the doctors and hematologists in Perth. I am wondering if anyone is also from Perth or Australia and has any advice or can recommend a doctor who they have found to be supportive and helpful?

I get the usual bruises, red dots, nose bleeds, anxiety, depression etc. And also tiredness which I find is my worst sympton. It is hard to juggle university, work and a social life when its such an effort to get out of bed. Does anyone have any suggestions for complementary treatments (acupuncture?) which they have found helped raise their energy levels? Particularly any practioners in Perth or Australia? I am committing to weekly yoga sessions so will see how that goes :)

Hi Laura,

I have seen good success with homeopathy for ITP. My daughter was cured of ITP nearly 8 years ago, after I finally found the right remedy for her. Her platelets went from 11k to 400k in less than 3 days.
I do have a homeopathic colleage in Brisbane, named David Kempson. You may try and reach him.:)

Hi Laura,

So sorry to know that the hematologists are not very helpful in Perth. I will be relocating to Perth soon and am hoping to find some good ones there. I was diagnosed a year ago and have was treated with Prednisolone but platelet crashed while tapering to 10mg a day. I was then started on Revolade (Eltrombopag) together with Danazol and Pednisolone. Platelet counts have been good between 150 to 300 the last 6 months. I am tapering down the prednisolone but very, very slowly.Hope this is helpful to you. All the best.
