Is it safe to Dye or Perm hair with I.T.P.

My hematologist advised me NOT to have dye or perm on my hair due to I.T.P. I was wondering if anyone else has been advised on this. This could have been when I was on prednisone as I was loosing a lot of hair. However, for past 7 months, I have not had any treatments and platelets are below 10k.

Any information or suggestions on the topic would be appreciated.

I've never been given any cautions about hair treatments. If my hair was falling out I think I'd avoid those treatments. Also I suppose it is possible if you are sensitive to the chemicals it could cause an immune reaction.

Hi Erica

I have had ITP for 3 years now, and have been having my hair highlighted for longer than that!

I have never been told not too, but I did have the allergy test done by the hair-dresser first.

Hope you are allowed too, as when ITP is getting you down, I think it helps to look good!
