Petechia Like Rash?

Petechia Like Rash? was created by gretchenleary
Hi all, I was diagnosed a couple years ago with VERY mild "ITP".

Over the last few months, I keep getting this petechiae like rash but when they check my platelets, they seem okay. Def over 130,000 every time.

The first two times it came on suddenly and only on my right forearm and covered my whole right hand. This time its on both hands, both forearms, my left shoulder and there is one little tiny purple spot too amongst the tiny red pinprick dots and my left leg.

They can't find the cause of this. Can stress induce this rash as well? It's usually accompanied by fatigue, chills, low grade fever, and cold sweats...

No clue what is going on...

No, stress does not cause petechiae if counts are good. Petechiae isn't really a rash - it is caused by broken capillaries. Are you sure it's petechiae?

Nowadays your count of 130 wouldn't even get you an ITP label so don't worry about that. There are many things that can cause a petechial rash, some viruses will do it and also go along with the fever and fatigue. I presume they've done detailed blood tests for viruses? Something like glandular fever which I think is called mono in the US would do it.

Hi! Doctor looked at it. Definitely thinks they're petechiae but doesn't feel it's due to my platelets specifically. He says it seems like some sort of systemic inflammatory issue but doesn't understand what is causing this reaction. He ordered more blood work. ANA was negative in 2010, RH Factor was negative, and he says that by comparing my lab history, I've had blood in my urine multiple times, my WBC has been slightly elevated (11-14), and my platelets have been slightly lower than normal to low normal (lowest ever on record was 117,000) but nothing big stands out. Lymes test was negative. He says maybe some form of arthritis since the rash is accompanied by chronic low grade fevers and joint pain where the the rash is. He says my VIT D is low so I have to take 50,000IU for the next 12 weeks but said that is not revelant to this rash.

I guess I just have to wait to see what the new blood panel says

Hi Monospot test was negative. He's going to run more tests. The spots don't Blanche at all and there is muscular or joint pain involved where the rash is so he is going to do some more tests involving a different form of arthritis. We shall see.

I saw a dermatologist when I had a petechial rash and he said it was a capillaritis, the little sister to vasculitis. I also had joint pains. So maybe it's something like that. Mine turned out to be the side effect of a drug I was taking for the ITP and went away when I stopped it.

Hmm I looked it up and it sounds similar but no itching and I'm not taking any new medication. Info on it looks inconsistant when I googled it. One site said it can be a sign of form of lymphoma and another site said it's completely harmless.
