ANA test results was created by Dave
When I went to my hematology appointment two weeks ago, the nurse drew a second vile of blood, and the doctor chose to use it for an Antinuclear Antibody test. The results were negative. Does anyone know what that means besides I don't currently have antinuclear antibodies? Would that include the antibodies that cause ITP? Would that include the APL antibodies that cause blood clots? Does a negative result increase my chances that my remission will last?

Dave-I am no expert, but I always thought that anti-nuclear antibodies had to do with Lupus...And a negative ANA meant that you are less likely to have/develop Lupus.

I'm glad that your results were negative and I hope mine will be too.

The ANA is used to measure inflammation and can be elevated in a few autoimmune disorders. It doesn't have anything to do with ITP, just indicates that you are less likely to develop a connective tissue disorder at this time that would make ITP a secondary disorder.

Thank you both for the replies. You answered my question much better than the articles I found last week. This site helped me deal with my initial diagnosis and has been a great source of information ever since.
