Learning and Living with ITP was created by jraberna
I stumbled across this site tonight hoping to maybe find some answers. I am 28 years old and was diagnosed with ITP 2 years ago. I have had my sleen removed, taken IGIV (so many times I have lost count), taken predinose, and am now on Promacta. I have the lab band which I had done a year ago before taking the Promacta. I started the meds around 3 weeks ago. I was sick for 6 days. Could not keep anything down. It finally dawned on me that the Promacta was not going through my band. I went to the doctor today and my platelets had fell from 300,000 to 12,000. The doctor increased my Promacta dosage to 75 mg daily. I am wondering if anyone has a lab band and had issues. I am wondering if my body is absorbing the medication correctly. I am now cutting the pill into tiny pieces and getting it down without getting sick. If this does not work, I will start on the shot. So I am just wondering if anyone out there can give some advice. I am learning still slowly about ITP and how in the world it came into my life. Have faith is what I tell myself and my doctor tells me. I am just ready to live a normal (well somewhat:)) life. I would appreciate any feedback.

  • Diagnosed in 2000, at 59, after being on moderately high doses of NSAIDs for arthritis. Splenectomy and rituxan both failed (2004). Did well on prednisone till summer 2018--then terrible reactions. Promacta since 11-19.

Is a lab band the same as a lap band?
