thrush but not on predisone was created by Michellek
Hi all:

Is it possible to get thrush even when not on steroids? I have my spleen removed about two weeks ago. I get my blood work done tomorrow to see where my counts are at.

Should I call my hema office about the white tongue? I do have some medication left from the last time I had it but I was on steroids back then.

I plan on calling my family doc on Monday as I need to make a follow up appointment with her anyway.

Thanks for you help

Michelle.

Michelle - are you on antibiotics? Those can cause thrush. I'd call the GP tomorrow; they should be able to give you something.

Sandi:

Nope not on anything. Just tylenol when needed. I was surprise they send me home from the hospital without any kind of antibotics. I am very allergic to almost all of the antibotics out there. We even think the one I wasn't allergic too may have start this whole ITP thing since it seem to happen around the same time frame.

I will call my GP tomorrow and make an appointment.

I want her to check my lower back too as it has been hurting a lot. Wonder if the surgeron messed something up back there, since they had to slide my spleen out though my left hip area. It was slightly enlarged.

I should mention when I was in the hospital Starting on Feb 9th until Feb 14, They gave me Dex in pill from to get my platlees up since I was admitted with plates of 2,000. They work fora bit plates went up 1,000 a day then crash back down to 3,000 they day before surgery. They transfured me the day before surgery and most likely durning the surgery. Could this be a cause for teh thrush now?

Yes, Dex could cause thrush too. That's probably it.

Good luck!

Probably. It can stay in your system for a while. Since thrush is a fungus, it can spread on its own once it starts.
