Shingles vaccine was created by anmayrodgers
I am 77 years old. Had ITP since 2001. I have a friend who had shingles and she was miserable for several months. I wanted to have the vaccine but my hematologist doesn't want me to have it. At the time (a year ago) I didn't question it. Since that time at one of our local ITP support groups I asked and one of the five people had had it and had no problems.
I don't know why my doc didn't want me to have it. I think he only has two or three patients with ITP like so many doctors. I had my spleen removed in 2005 (didn't help me platelets) and I don't know if that has some significance. Any thoughts??

I believe the shingles vaccine is a live vaccine so should not be given to the asplenic or immunocompromised.
