Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) & ITP

Hi guys,

I just had a very bad night. I was woken up by severe abdominal pains, cold sweats and diarrhea. I started to have blood in my stool after going to the bathroom a couple of times. The pain lasted about 1 hour to 1 hour and a half then I was able to go back to bed. I woke up this morning with my stomach feeling really uneasy.

The weird thing is that I've had this before...I would say that in a 6 month span I've had it at least 3 times. This is the first time that I've seen blood in my stool though. I'm certain that this is not a virus. I'm pretty sure that it's not food-related as well...I ate and drank different things before all of the occurences. I started looking online because I remembered reading something about a stomach bacteria that could be the cause of ITP. Here is the article:

Do these symptoms sound familiar to anyone? Has anyone been tested for H. Pylori? Has treatment for it worked in getting your platelets back up?

Thanks a lot in advance.
Jo

Hi lunanox,
I had the test done for H-pylori and tested positive, didn't have those sort of symptoms though, just mainly stomach cramps. I had a double round of antibiotics as the first round didn't work, didn't change my counts at all BUT still have the test if you can because in some it can make a difference.

Sounds like it could be gastritis, which can have many causes. No matter what the cause, you should get it checked out as soon as possible.

I was tested, found positive and treated. Seemed to make no difference to my platelet counts though.

I have seen that there is different types of the H-pylori bug and depending on the type of bug is what effect it has on platelets, still worth treating.

Thanks a lot guys.

I am going to see my family dr tomorrow and I will ask for the test. I've been getting alot of heartburn as well which is strange. Sometimes I don't even eat anything and I have heartburn.

I would recommend you do the test, I did a breath test not sure of the other options. I had to take this little capsule and breath into a big silver balloon and that was it, from memory I think it takes a little while to get result.

Hey guys,

I completely forgot to write back to this post :) Sorry about that :) I was tested for it by blood test...came back negative. The weird stomach thing never came back so I have no idea what it was...as long as it stays gone it's all good :) I was disapointed about the negative test though...I had thought that it could have been a possible easy fix to this disease but I guess not. Oh, well...gotta keep hoping :)
