Skin Pain in Patches was created by RAD
Does anyone else with very low platelets experience patches of skin which are very sore to touch? Clothing hurts and movement, I mainly get it on my arms or legs at the moment I have it at the top of one leg where the front pocket of jeans are and this time it hurts to move too.

I have had this sporadically for a decade or so, before any explicit autoimmune issues arose.
It manifested itself as patches on my skin which were painful even to a brushing touch.
It is called hyperesthesia. There wasn't anything in particular that seemed appropriate to do,
since it came and went. I don't think it is directly related to platelets. I have had shingles, and it
is apparently fairly commonly seen after that.

No. I think ITP is blamed for way too many things it shouldn't be blamed for :)
I would make an appointment with my MD.

I have noticed it is more often when my count is at its lowest. I think Mendenmh might be on the right track. I have mentioned it to my GP and he cannot explain it. It is a bit hard when you have had ITP for over 30 years to know what is related to it and what is not.

Thanks for your reply.

Right track meaning shingles in the past [curious because I've had it twice]? Or the hyper-sensitive skin?

I guess I just refuse to give ITP that much power over me - it may cause me bruising and little red dots and a low count but I'm not going to let it be the cause for all my other problems :) I've only had it for 22 years.

It would be nice if you could figure out why - that cannot be a comfortable feeling. I
do get it on my left wrist below the thumb, that though is being caused by tendonitis.
Good luck!

I also had shingles many years ago on the left side of my back. Things I blame ITP for; fatigue, bruseing, red dots, mouth blisters, DEPRESSION and of course low Platelets. Hope you can figure out what is causing the painful patches. Not fun I am sure.
Good Luck.

I have never had Shingles so I can't put it down to that. The pain has gone now, it comes and goes in different places. I did have some laser accupuncture some years ago and it took the pain away immediately. The Chinese doctor who gave it to me said it was blocked chi. I need to find another laser accupuncturist here.

After living with ITP for nearly 40 years and all of my adult life I have learned what it causes but this has me a bit baffled.

Thanks for all of your replies
