Bruising...

Bruising... was created by Jpeters
Hi Everyone....I am an adult with ITP which appears to be chronic by now. My counts are all over the place, I believe my hormones, diet, alcohol intake, sleep and stress are all contributing. Anyway, do any of you get hard lumps under your skin when you hit/bump yourself? I bumped my leg on the coffee table, got a large lump under my skin and now I have a huge black & blue bruise. The lump remains.....I have several bruises on my legs/buttocks. Seems like every 'bump' i get a bruise. My last count was 192 but I had the stomach flu when that blood was drawn. Do counts go up when you are sick? I'm so confused, I don't want to obsess on my counts, and even if they are low I am going to refuse therapy of any kind......perhaps it is better just not knowing.

J, first off, 192 is an excellent count! How long ago did you have your count done? Even when I had decent counts, I would occasionally find bruises. I never let it bother me. Yes, some of them would be hard bubbles. I don't ever remember being sick when getting a count so I can't help you there. Someone else will probably chime in and answer that one for you.

Well, if you're bumping yourself hard enough, you will bruise no matter what the count. People without ITP bruise too. The lump is probably a hematoma which will usually dissolve in time.

Yes, for some people, counts go up when they are sick.

That's strange, my counts go down when I am sick, but yeah anyone can get bruises if you bump yourself hard enough

Jpeters, wow 192 is a count I wish I have.
Like Cindy said that's an excellent count.

Maybe you should be more careful moving around.
I would be more concern if I have bruises without being bumped.
Maybe you could get another count, take care.

Jpeters I had surgery in December and the week after my count was 130, two weeks after that it was 280 who knows why but I will take a high count anytime. We all react in different ways!

Jpeters, I've heard of other people having a similar thing, where they get hardenings or bumps when they bruise. I don't think that it's necessarily because of ITP--it's just their particular response, just like some people tend to get keloid scarring, while others don't.

If you check out the Natural Treatment sections on this board, I actually just posted some homeopathic remedies that can be good for bruises, under the thread, "Homeopathic Remedies for Various Kinds of Bruises". If you are so inclined, you might check those out. The remedies Ruta or Conium both have this symptom that you describe.
