What do you recommend? 8000 now was created by rentalaraj
9 month pregnant joined ER with 8k count
raised count by IVgs + pred
Delivered beautiful daughter at 83k
100k(discharged)
kept on preds(tapering)
Got 183k after 10 days
Then dropped to 83k
Started good diet(no milk, sugar) + herbs(amrit) and tapered preds
Just today it dropped to 8,000 again

Hemo told us to immediately plan for splenectomy
but my husband and I recommended for any tablets or drugs
He said Promacta! but would be admitting in the hospital tomorrow for IVgs for two days + would be given all immunization shots (just to be ready for splenectomy)

Would like to know your recommendations?
We are really scared now!

Where do you live? That will determine which treatments are available to you.

My advice would be to get a second opinion. This doctor seems to overreact just a bit. How are your symptoms?

Hi Sandi
We live in Mississippi , USA
and we are following with a University Dr.(who is a HOD there) and wondering whether we need to go to a private hospital?

No symptoms of such low blood counts...no bleeding nor spots on my skin

We also ordered wish by spirit and reading it.

We are Begging God for any small help we can get.

Okay, so you probably have all treatments available to you. It's a bit odd to suggest Promacta so soon. There are other options...Win-Rho, Rituxan, Decadron, etc.

If you don't have symptoms, that is great! IVIG could most likely be done out-patient. I don't know that you necessarily need a private hospital, maybe just a doctor who isn't so quick to jump to splenectomy and offers other ideas.

Congratulations on the new baby!

Is there any reason why your doctor wants to go to splenectomy or promacta right away? Perhaps Prednisone, Dexamethasone or WinRho might be good for now. I would suggest trying these treatments first for at least 6 months before moving on to next step treatments. Talk to your doctor about it and express your concerns and try and find out why he/she is being very aggressive with the treatment.

It could also be that your body is still recovering from the hormones and all the stress of pregnancy and childbirth. Give it time to recover. Sometimes, pregnancy induced ITP will resolve itself after a few months.

In the meantime, enjoy your new baby!!!
