I too am confused between Pfizer and Moderna. I would happily take whichever causes the least ITP cases. I decided to take my vaccine after my colonoscopy lol. My GI wants me to get it done in a month. I am not looking forward to it but will have peace of mind once I get it out of the way. Then I can focus on my vaccine and platelet counts.

  • Diagnosed with ITP July 2018 Dexamethasone didn't work, Rituxan treatment lasted 9 mos . Tried Promacta for about one year but never stabilized. Started Doptelet 1/2021 and it seems to be working. Lowest platelet count since diagnosed has been 5k.

My hematologist recommended I get the Moderna vaccine. I just reached my two weeks post second shot of the Moderna vaccine and my platelets haven't been effected and I've been having them tested almost every week. I had nothing more than a sore arm (like usual from a shot), but I would do it again in a heartbeat even if I had been horribly sick for 2 days or my platelets had dropped for the peace of mind I have now.

Before my first Pfizer shot my platelets were 147. A week after the first shot they were 110, then another week later they were 112.

Had my platelets tested yesterday (1 week after the 2nd Pfizer) and they were 129. So I am pretty happy it is over with. I have reactions to 'normal' vaccines and I have to say I had a lot LESS reactions to the mRNA vaccine. I did have mouth bleeding on the 3rd day after the 2nd shot, but it is gone now and my platelet count 7 days after the 2nd shot was 129 as I said, so I don't know if that was possibly a transitory crash.
