Have been diagnosed with itp for 12 years. I am about to turn 21. I was good for 10 years and this passed two years have been hell for me. I’ve been on basically everything & even got a splenectomy done. Nothing works. I’m Currently on Promacta and Prednisone in the hospital for the 3rd time in just November. I’m looking for a good hematologist in Houston. I really don’t know what’s next for me. My count is mostly at 5.

Do they give you IVIG? How do you do with it?

Hello Lizbeth,

Fellow Houstonian (Sugar Land) ITP’er here. If your insurance covers it MD Anderson has 2 ITP specialist on staff. I’m relegated to Memorial Hermann due to insurance reasons, but wouldn’t recommend anyone there so far anyway. If you want specifics on MD Anderson direct message me and I’ll give you more info. I sent him all of my medical records and he is doing a pro bono look through for me. Friend of a friend type situation.
I basically spent October in and out of the hospital with counts down to 1K, so I understand your predicament. Am currently on high dose Pred (120 a day) and Nplate at once a week. Have had IVIG, Dex burst, platelets transfused, methalpredniolone, and more IVIG. Curious as to what all they have done and what kind of timeline you’ve been on since the latest relapse.
Look under the discussion “Starting the Journey” and it will show you what I’ve been through in the last month and a half.

Good luck and Hppy Thanksgiving!
