Looking for ITP doctor in St. Louis, MO was created by sjohnston1
Hi. I'm looking for an ITP doctor in the St. Louis, MO area. Does anyone have any recommendations? I've already started searching the hematologists at all the main hospitals, but I thought someone on here may have a suggestion too of someone that they go to and respect. I'm new to this group, but it has been so helpful reading everything and I'm so thankful this site exists. Thank you!

I'm in St. Louis.
The hematologist I've been seeing for more than 6 years is a good match for my personality.
I won't say he's the most knowledgeable about ITP, but that's alright because I keep myself informed so as to guide him. He's flexible... Doesn't impose his will on mine, although he does bristle if I refuse the treatment he wants to do. I'm a grown-up; I can take it.
He doesn't display any panic the way some MDs do when counts are single-digit. For example, he's never sent me to the hospital just for a low count. He trusts that I know to get myself there if bleeding signs become severe... But that's never happened.
If that's the kind of MD you think you could work with, I'll provide his name. He's near St. Anthony Hospital in South County.

Last year, when prednisone had started losing its effectiveness, I had to decide on the next treatment to try. I knew all the options... Just couldn't make up my mind. So I consulted the ITP specialist at Barnes-Jewish, Dr. Morey Blinder. He was the only ITP specialist I could locate at the time. I'm sure he's an excellent, knowledgeable, and up-to-date MD, but he wasn't my cup of tea. It may be the revolving door atmosphere at Barnes more than it was the MD himself. It's a huge complex that made me feel like only a number.

Best of luck with your choice.
(Oh... And keep reading here. There's always something new to learn!)
