Back pain was created by Jen35
Hi I am new to this website and was diagnosed with itp during my second trimester when I was recently pregnant with platelet counts in the 30's. I was on prednisone for a few months while pregnant which would bring my counts up to the 50's. I was also on prednisone for about two months after delivery but the prednisone stopped working and my counts dropped to the 20's. I then started ritauxin treatments with decadron. I have had three treatments so far. My question is that over the past few weeks I have been having horrible back pain when lying down flat. I will always wake up at about two in the morning crying from pain. I can't sleep more than four hours a night and am miserable. My doctor said to just take Tylenol which does nothing. Has anyone else experienced this side effect and did it go away after your treatments were done? Thanks for any advise.

That doesn't sound like a typical side effect of Rituxan. If it is due to Rituxan, I'd have a doctor check out the area and make sure it's not a kidney problem or something more serious. It could possibly be a side effect of Decadron. Withdrawal from that drug can cause a lot of painful side effects.

Thanks for the response. I'll ask my doctor to check for a kidney infection. Hopefully if it is a side effect from decadron it will go away in time.
