Need a new dr in Baltimore, MD was created by lizzels
Hi all - my hematologist moved offices and is now too far away from me (I live in Baltimore - my hematologist moved his office to the DC suburbs) to continue seeing him, so I need to find someone new. My ITP is low maintenance (knock on wood!) and has been since I was diagnosed 5 years ago. I was only treated during my pregnancy. I was a little frustrated with the lack of communication between my OB and heme during my pregnancy though, so someone who is willing to actively interface with other docs would be appreciated, as would privileges at Sinai Hospital and/or Mercy. I know Johns Hopkins is world famous, but haven't spoken to anyone with ITP who has seen someone there. I am open to the idea of Hopkins, but their beaurocracy is not always the easiest to deal with, and I would not be interested in delivering there if/when I have another child, so good communication with a doctor at anothe hospital would be essential.

Thank you in advance!

Liz

Did your old hematologist recommend someone?

My first thought if I were you would be where are/who has my records.

When my GYN retired all patient records were sent to this other GYN, I didn't want to use her so I had my records found & sent to a GYN of my choosing.

My old hema still has my records. I have an appointment with him on Monday of next week, actually. My plan is to see him one last time and then have my records transferred to whoever I choose as my new hema.

When you see him ask him for a recommendation - you may not have liked the way he & your OB communicated but that doesn't mean he does not know of a good hematologist close to you. [and was the lack of communication between them due to the hematologist or to the OB or to both of them?]

Also ask your MD - also ask your OB-GYN

Omg - I'm so glad I read your request!

I have a doctor recommendation for you. His name is Dr. Michael Strieff. He is part of the Johns Hopkins hematology team.

I live in dc but I drive all the way to Baltimore to go to him because he is really good, and has a great understanding of ITP. He is also very reasonable and treats you as a whole person, not just the numbers. Every time I go he talks to me foe a good 20 minutes, does a full examination, and really listens to me.... Then looks at my numbers. Is so nice to be treated as. Whole person rather than numbers on a piece of paper.

I could not recommend him more highly. He has, literally, changed my life. Please let me know if you cannot find him and I will private message his number. :)

I know I posted this AGES ago, but I just checked back on the post after forgetting about it and I looked up Dr. Strieff. Unfortunately he does not accept my insurance. :(

Oops - I was wrong! I looked him up as "Strieff" and he didn't show up, but then I did a location search and he did show up, as "Streiff." I will look into him and maybe give him a call!
