Well, heading for Florida tomorrow, just after being told I have thrush from the steroids and need to take nystatin. I read on line that nystatin drops platelets. has anyone taken it and been ok with it?

Yes, I have used it many times with no problems. Thrush is pretty common with Prednisone. I've also used Mycelex Troche which is like a lozenge.

Any drug has the potential to cause a platelet drop, but that doesn't mean that it will.

Tomorrow is the big day! Have a great time and try not to think about ITP!

I found this for Hydrocodone. Thrombocytopenia is listed for most drugs.

Hematologic side effects including rare cases of thrombocytopenia associated with acetaminophen have been reported. Acute thrombocytopenia has also been reported as having been caused by sensitivity to acetaminophen glucuronide, the major metabolite of acetaminophen. Methemoglobinemia with resulting cyanosis has also been observed in the setting of acute overdose.

I always get oral thrush with prednisone, even a low dose. I take nystantin any time i am on prednisone, which seems to be all the time lately. It does not affect my platelets. You just swish it around and spit it out.

You shouldn't have any problem, have a great trip!

I have a similar problem when taking antibiotics & find using probiotics helps. I doubled the dosage & it helped immensely.

Thank you all. Decided to cross the hall from the blood lab and talk to Doc #1's triage nurse. She confirmed it was pink eye, said the doctor was out all week (again). I asked did they not have a hema on call she could talk to. She seemed confused????? Said she would call me, that they had a protocol to follow.
I have no faith that in that office, so I waited 3 hours and called Doc #2's office. He was at the hospital but within 15 min I had my prescription for Closomething azol which he said would not drop platelets. I was at 407,000 yesterday and I do NOT want to crash.
Doc #1's nurse did not call back for another 6 hours. She called at 5:45 and said she had until 6 to call. Did I think she was not going to call? I said, "Yes, I got a prescription from my other doctor." She said, "But I had 15 more min to call?" Why wait 9 hours???
Do last night my eye started hurting and it looks like I have pink eye or conjunctivitis or my eye is about to erupt from my head. I feel like something is throwing brick bats at me. Can I please just leave???
Do I have to try to find a minute clinic along the way to Florida, and I have no idea what antibacterial eye drops are ok.
