Drug Reactions

Drug Reactions was created by Sheepstrings
 I had an extremely bad reaction to a pain medication that I was prescribed since being diagnosed with ITP for a herniated idsc in my neck. Prior to having been diagnosed I have had allergic reactions to anti-biotics (severe) and wondered has anyone else been subject to such issues since being ITP? Will it ever stop being a worry?

I'm not sure what you mean. Do you feel that because of ITP you are having allergic reactions or because of ITP you shouldn't be having allergic reactions?

Allergic reactions can happen to anyone at any time at any age. You can go to bed eating strawberries and are fine and the next day eat strawberries and have an allergic reaction - same with any food or med.

I'm sorry you had a bad reaction to the pain med - I'm sure your doctor's have flagged your chart with that information!

I have developed many drug allergies/adverse reactions over the years, but none are because I have ITP. As Melinda said, it can happen to anyone and it seems as though once it starts, it can just get worse. Having adverse reactions will never stop being a worry, no. Every time it happens to me, I just avoid that particular family of drugs and move on to another one.
