Mine were 28 two weeks ago, so now I am doing a four week infusion of Rituxan. I am also on 70 mg of prednisone a day. Not fun, but the doc seems to think this will work. I also have other autoimmune diseases that they need my count over 80 to treat. Know that you are not alone and others understand the frustration and disappointment of low counts.

Going from 36 to 34 isn't anything to be disappointed about. It's not that big of a drop. Do you have serious symptoms like bleeding?

Rain:

No one likes to see a drop, but going from 36 to 34 isn't much. Platelet counts can fluctuate that much in an hour, and when you get automated counts done there is a margin of error of about 5. Basically, 36 and 41 are the same count, and 36 and 31 are the same count. You are still in a safe range (above 30). :)

I'll second that - when i was initially hospitalised, i had counts over a course of 3 days ranging between 17 and 20. Now that i know how ITP works, none of those minor fluctuations were really a rise or a drop. I've gone from 32 to 34 in a space of 6 weeks - that's not a raise, I've just stopped dropping (i have friends who have taken this to be a massive improvement, when it's just me staying put). You always need to look at counts in relation to several previous ones. if they've all hovered between 30-40 then you can consider yourself relatively stable - if they've been yo-yo-ing between 10 and 100 then you could consider it either a rise or a drop - but for the timebeing, try not to over analyse the fractional differences. It can be as basic as the time of day they're taken or how recently you've eaten.

I wouldn't be concerned about a two point drop in counts,as long as you don't have bleeding symptoms, it is nothing to be worried about

When I get a count done, they repeat anything under 70,000. Last time the first count was 36,000 so they repeated it and the next one (two minutes later) was 41,000. I agree that a difference of 2,000 is nothing to worry about.

ty guys,i dont have any bleeding or even a red spot,i feel better and i can still do households,im just a little worried why it tooks a long time before it back to normal, because my previous tooks only a week after my platelet transfusion and my count is back to normal, not like now its 1 monh already and it seems nothings change,my haema suggest me to have a spleenectomy or an injection, but i cant afford those kind of treatment thats why she only gave me oral medication, but even before im only taking prednisone and everythings back to normal after 1-2weeks,just wondering why??;)

I hear you. I'm new to this too. I HATE going in for blood tests. I always try to feel optimistic because I'm feeling good. Then I find its gone from 37 to 16. (yesterday)! I'm still confident it will build up again. I am getting over a cold and my dr told me that a virus will bring down my platelets. Also working out, I guess. Now, I can only walk. I figure that I'm not in any pain and I'm actually feeling perfectly normal and healthy, I'm not going to complain too much. Just move carefully. I'm working on altering my diet too. Whatever works, right. Hang in there, Rainlyn. Life is crazy, huh.:S
