Other Stuff - abdominal surgery with ITP

Hi guys... just checking... anyone had their gallbladder (r other ab surgery) out since ITP? Mine has cysts showing up in one of my regular liver images. I also have immune-based cirrhosis with a lousy INR of 1.4 since my liver isn't functioning just right... so the surgeons at Mayo are taking all kinds of precautions... but, wanted to find out if the ITP added days to the hospital stay or anyone had any complications? They are telling me 3 to 5 days if all goes well, which is obviously a lot longer than the "normal" gb removal... boy, somedays these immune deals are unreal! T

Hi tlanger,
I have had two surgeries since having ITP both went well, I live in the country and the local hospital will not operate on me since there is no hemotology unit at this hospital, so I have to go to a major city about three hours away.
The only thing that I noticed different is that they tended to do cbc a little more often while I am in hospital and of course they always make sure of blood groups and blood and platelet supplies are ready, but I have never needed either, so all was good no complications and no extra days.

I had my gallbladder removed in February 2011. No complications what so ever. I was released the same day. Now they made sure my platelet count was over 100 before they started, which it was and they already had clearance from my hemo. LOL that sound more official than it really was the surgeon works for the hemo at his clinic and their across the hall from each other. Hemo actually thought I was there to see him when the nurses brought me back to see the surgeon.

I had my gall bladder out for the same reason. The cyst was found in my gall bladder was found as part of my evaluation for ITP. After both prednisone and rituxin made my ITP worse, I was put on N-Plate.
after several weeks of high doses, my platelets counts remained over 120K.

The gall bladder surgery was not quick. At the hospital as 12:00 and home by 5:30. I was back at work at work in 4 days. I thought it was easier on me then the Rituxin treatment.

The polyp is a big concern. Mine was a type and size that could have become cancerous. Get it done.
good luck.

Most people who have had their GB removed say that they do not miss it.

Thanks to all who have written... sounds pretty straightforward... does seem like Mayo doesn't want to mess with this... and given all of teh bad results of leaving the gb in there, it's time to go... they're saying 3 to 5 days total because I have a plat ct of 45,000 to 55,000, so I'll need a little liquid gold for a couple of days... my INR is well above average (1.4) so I don't clot quickly and I do have a trace of fluid in my gut whihc I guess can infect quickly with bad results... the last two courtesy of my immune liver stuff... and, so I guess they can stare at me and have something to do for Christmas since I'll be there, right now, pretty much thru Christmas Eve day, if not Christmas... boy I love my immune system!
