World Lupus Day- May 10, 2010 was created by PennyLane
www.worldlupusday.org/

Is anyone here participating in any of the events? I'm walking in two of the Canadian Walk-A-Block fundraisers. My friends and family surprised me while I was in hospital last week: they've formed a team in my home province, and have raised almost $1000!

Thanks! My family and friends raised over $1300 at home for me- it was a really sunny and warm day, and there were so many more people than I expected.

My partner and I raised $300 together for our walk here. Our puppy came along, with her little purple lupus scarf!

Puppy - you say? looks big enough to be fully grown but what do I know. She looks beautiful though.

Am glad you had a good day and sounds like you've raised a fair amount. Glad you enjoyed it

well, I used the area below that says "select image file to attach" and chose a pic from my pics on my computer. I hate that I don't understand how things work!

Server- I had some issues trying to attach a photo too...I hope it works out for you!

Sandi- your pup is sooo cute! What's the name, and how old?? Is she a Lab or a Chesapeake?

My girl Penny is a Lab, and will be 1 year on Sept. 14. We got her one month after my arthritis mysteriously started last October, before I even knew what Lupus or ITP was!

She is three years old and her name is Snickers. She is the love of my life - the sweetest, funniest dog I've ever known. Her mother is a yellow lab and her father is a Nova Scotian Duck Toller. My daughter owns the mother and two brothers, so when they get together, look out!

Gretchen - keep trying. I want to see your dog. Use tinypic.

Oh my goodness- what a mix!! I am from NS, and LOVE duck tollers! It's definitely what I want for our next dog, in about a year or so. Does she get in the water much?

Ha - she actually doesn't like water. She has a lot of the Duck Toller personality traits though which is what makes her so interesting. What's so funny is that we compare her weird traits to her brothers and they do the same strange things (were separated at 6 weeks). When they smell something they like, they rub themselves all over it (clean and dirty towels, legs with lotion on them, someone's hair that has nice smelling shampoo) - it's so funny. They also all sleep on the bedroom floor with their heads under the bed and the rest of the body out. They all put their one paw on your arm when you pet them. Lots of strange things. Oh, and they are very skittish. They bark at strangers with their tails between their legs.

Sandi- that is too cute! So funny that they all sleep half-under/out of the bed! At least they're not rubbing themselves on super-gross stuff!

Server, she is beautiful! She must love water?? How old is she?

Here's a video of Penny behind the house last weekend- we can't keep her out of the ocean (and it's the N. Atlantic, so it's COLD):

I work a few hours a week at a holistic dog shop, and she comes with me. I get to meet quite a few dogs, and I must say that water dogs and retrieving dogs are my favourites. Penny loves absolutely everyone, especially kids.

It's kind of funny that we all have larger dogs as ITP patients- I often wonder if my counts are down, or if my bruises are casualties of Penny.

I think it's funny that we have similar brown dogs.

Gretchen - she's so cute! How old and what is her name?

well, since you asked...kinda...here's the whole story!
We were camping in May of 2004 in the city which we now live and she just wondered up to our campsite. We agreed that if she was still around in the morning we'd keep her. Welp.......here she is! Her name is Raisin and she rings in at about 110lbs! We think she's about 8 years old not sure though. And we're pretty sure she's full blooded Chocolate Lab, but not sure about that either. We only know that we love her to pieces!
